Island of 50,000 People in the Bahamas Is 70% Under Water. Grand Bahama Island was still in the path of Hurricane Dorian on Tuesday and the area continues to endure devastating weather conditions produced by the hurricane’s eyewall, according to the National Hurricane Center. Grand Bahama is currently being “pummelled” by the stalled Hurricane Dorian, with widespread alerts and warnings in place for “life-threatening” and “catastrophic” conditions. Five deaths have been confrimed in the north-eastern Abacos Islands. A scene of “total devastation” is being left in Dorian’s wake, and with the storm completely stationary over Grand Bahama, the threat is far from over, with a state of emergency declared in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina.
